This research aims at exploring the possibility of repairing a wrinkled section of a steel oil and gas pipe using basalt FRP (BFRP) composites wrap rather than removing the section entirely. The research work consists of a detailed study using full-scale laboratory tests as well as finite element analyses on wrinkled steel pipes of API 5L X60 grade and those repaired with BFRP composites. The specimens are subjected to four-point bending tests and internal pressure to initiate the wrinkles. The results obtained through this research will determine whether BFRP composites are suitable for the repair of corroded pipes and whether the addition of BFRP can prevent the wrinkle-defect from occurring on corroded pipes subjected to bending.
